Echocardiogram
No preparation required
Duration: 45-60 minutes
A comprehensive non-invasive test that uses ultrasound to assess details of the heart’s structure, such as the valves, dimensions and resting function of the heart.
Stress Echocardiogram
Avoid large meals, caffeine, smoking and alcohol prior to the test. Wear comfortable clothes and footwear for walking.
Duration: Approx 30 minutes
While exercising on a treadmill, heart activity, breathing and blood pressure are monitored. Ultrasound images of the heart are performed before and immediately after exercise and analysed. This test may be used to detect blocked coronary arteries, abnormal heart rhythms or to determine safe levels of exercise.
Electrocardiogram (ECG)
No preparation required
Duration: Approx 10 minutes
A brief test that records the electrical activity of the heart. It shows abnormal rhythms (arrhythmias), and can sometimes detect heart muscle damage.
Holter Monitor
The monitor will take 15 minutes to fit.
You will not be able to shower or bath with the monitor on.
Please return the monitor the next day.
A small, portable ECG machine records the heart beats over 24 hours of normal activities. The collected information is analysed and evaluated after the test.
Ambulatory Blood Pressure (ABP)
The monitor will take 15 minutes to fit.
You will not be able to shower or bath with the monitor on.
Please return the monitor the next day.
A small portable machine and blood pressure cuff are worn for 24 hours. Blood pressure readings are automatically taken at 30 minute intervals during the day and hourly at night while the patient continues most daily activities.
Tilt Table Test
No food or drink 2 hours prior to test
Duration: Approx 30 minutes
A Tilt Table Test is used to evaluation the cause of unexplained fainting (syncope). The test can help determine if the cause is related to your heart rate or blood pressure.
