Since its establishment, Charles Clinic Heart Care has been committed to bringing high quality, best international practice Specialist Services to Tasmania.
Our staff includes ten full and part-time cardiologists and eleven cardiac echo sonographers and technical staff. Our part time doctors visit from major teaching hospitals in Melbourne and Brisbane. Several are nationally recognised in their field.
As well as local public and private hospitals, the Clinic has close associations with Royal Melbourne Hospital, Melbourne Private Hospital, Monash Medical Centre and Flinders Private Hospital, South Australia, all nationally recognised institutions. We are able to offer an unrivalled choice of investigation and treatment options, critical for patients with more complex and higher acuity concerns.
Charles Clinic has developed a reputation for comprehensive, personalised and compassionate service. It is the region’s largest provider of echo and non-invasive diagnostic services. We continue to be one of the most progressive regional cardiology practices in Australia and are building a national reputation for innovation and service delivery.
From 2010 we progressively built an extensive regional outreach service, which in 2013 was recognised with a National Award for Excellence.
In 2013 we were also selected as a Philips Australia Reference Site for the introduction of the new EPIQ ultrasound and cardiac quantification systems. We are one of only ten sites in the Asia-Pacific region and Australia’s only regional site.

Our Launceston rooms are a highly computerised, paperless, purpose-built facility offering a full range of non-invasive cardiac testing and consulting services. We have an impressive array of the latest Philips ultrasound equipment, in addition to other high level diagnostic equipment.
Our testing services include echocardiography, transoesophageal echo, stress testing, holter monitoring, ambulatory blood pressure monitoring and ECG analysis. We have an advanced telehealth network and provide efficient, secure electronic communication with general practitioners, specialists and hospitals through the use of HealthLink.
We provide a wide range of multi-modality imaging services delivered by highly trained technical staff and through cooperation with local radiology services and via regular interstate specialist visits. These services include Cardiac CT angiography and a state of the art Cardiac MRI service in conjunction with Regional Imaging Ltd (I-Med).
Our interventional services include pacemaker and defibrillator implantation, loop recorder implantation, cardioversion, invasive coronary angiography and PCI. We also arrange surgical referrals as necessary with local and interstate health care facilities.
Although our diagnostic services are of the highest possible standard, our fees remain competitive and comparable to other local services. For pensioners and health care card holders we offer a concessional rate for services.
Private Practice
Charles Clinic Specialist Centre welcomes those practitioners that want to balance a public contract with a private practice.
Our experienced and qualified Executive Team are available to mentor and support new doctors as they pursue a private patient practice.
Centre of Excellence
As part of a multi-disciplinary specialist group, each doctor is entitled to membership of our Centre of Excellence. This collegiate group uses educational, networking, and social events to drive innovation and understanding of the general population health issues that face Tasmanians.
Our Suites
All suites are tastefully furbished, spacious and provided with full IT services including secure data backup, 24 hours support, VoIP phone system, high speed internet access, electric medical bed and quality furnishing.
